His Final Decision - 25th March

Recently, my friend posted a blog about his resignation from his current working job and pursue what he likes doing...it was not a bad move really...pursuing what you actually liked to do. And then he was saying about how he's getting better offers after his resignation. In my opinion, in one way, he should leave as the company only gave him offers only after he decided to leave, and even if he doesn't leave, the company may and may not further the same offers to him. And he said that his decision is final and final is final, nothing can change that. I do respect him for being steadfast on his decision.

Yes, indeed I would ask too, "Why would you quit from your high-paying job?". Its a stable income, even in these economic crisis times, your still not retrenched and such. Many of those from my class would gladly stay if they were in the same position as my friend...but I guess they're not him....In fact, I would too. Yeah, he doesn't want a "simple" life.....but I do...I don't aim for too much...to be rich and gain lots of money....just that I have savings to last me through a comfortable old age and there's money whenever I need to put into my pocket will do...there's no such thing as "That is the amount of money I want to earn...."

Before you even reach the target, your mindset begins to change and aim for higher...and there's never an end to that. Seldom have I seen rich people using "truthful" tactics to gain money / profit....even Bill Gates has his tactics...even the Boss of Genting is gaining profits from a "People Harming Way". But I guess, when people have a significant financial upper hand on the rest of the crowd, they tend to think differently, in a more "I don't care way, It's my Way". So, in the end, there is never enough money and a target with a good cause suddenly becomes a greed for more money and this greed may never stop at anything. No one can say that they can control the feeling, after all, we're all humans...we all sin....

And dragging God into decisions you've made in life is no way to reinforce the decision. Imagine if that someone decides to murder somebody and he's saying that "I need to kill that person for your sake, to purify him / her of sins...So, God spare me of any punishments and may all be Godspeed". Did God chose for you to make that decision? No. It is the human mind that is playing God and reassuring himself that there is someone out there to correct your mistakes on the way. Its like there is a "Plan B" going on that will guide you through decisions...The concept that God will follow through all your decisions just isn't right....

After all the long-winded talk, I think in the end...It's His Life and Not Mine...there's suddenly no point of making any sense out of his decision for my own understanding. In certain things, we probably of different wavelengths.

The Education - 9th March

Recently, I came across my friend's blog, the one talking about the education state in our country. He was talking on how the quality of education in our country is deteriorating, how students in our country are memorizing and spilling them out again during exams. No doubt that this is in fact reflects the larger population of the student world at this moment. But, I cannot resist to make a number of points here in which I hope that he will take time to consider the truth of life and that there's no point stating how frustrated you are.

In my country, the general idea would be gauging a person's clever levels / success in education / future success in life is based on your achievements in exams (especially in public exams). This happens also in other countries such as in China, Japan and more severely in Singapore. The question here is: What do you expect from the students? We can't just blame the student for memorizing, or the tuition centers or the ministers. The fact is that: The society rules all!

The society dictates what is success. The society says that their language is not given the proper treatment. The society says that so and so shall be the yardstick to measure a person's value. Everything is on the society...If they don't change, why should the government or the students?
And in our country, the education system is exam-oriented. The system do not encourage creative thinking (they have got strict marking schemes to follow to check on public exams). It does not even encourage thinking. Who is to blame? Us - the society.

The education system in the country in fact does not encourage learning for the sake of learning. If you learn for the sake of learning...you'll probably be an outcast of the society. In my country, ask anyone on the streets...have you ever ever read notes from school, right before exams, just for the sake of learning and not for the exams. Don't be surprised, not even one will give you a 'yes' answer. Exams in my country is the one of the measures for success, the more "A's" you get, the more people would look up on you...even if your personality is blacker than coals...

Furthermore, the environment in class is in fact never conductive. Try to talk and the teacher would reprimand you for talking during lessons. Which is why students could not give an answer to a teacher when he asks his students. Nobody wants to be wrong or reprimanded wouldn't they? And the daily routine of classes are notes and more notes to copy. Teachers cram pages and pages into a 1-hour period and expects them to copy them without even explaining what is it all about. How would students want to study? Interests of topics beyond what is taught in class is quashed by the "follow the syllabus" rule. How would this encourage learning? We are being taught to be robots in class and therefore, this is also being brought into the outside world.

A student who is not keen on studying but more on practicalities, is being labeled as "stupid" and "useless". Humans are born with different personalities each, but the education system demands that he does well or suffer the consequences in later life. People without education are considered to be the bane of the society. What justice is there for us to label them as such? Should we blame the students for having a class that does not promote learning? The person to point the fingers at would be us - The Society. It is us that dictates how the future shall look like...

Anger Makes Victory - 5th March

Recently something just came up to my mind and I wonder how many people would say that this theory is true. It goes like this: When two person interact with each other, there is bound to be times where there are disputes...so, when either one of them gets angry first and not saying it, he would generally have the final say over the dispute and most of time, things would swing to his way. This is because, the person who gets angry first creates an impression that he's right and the other is definitely definitely wrong no matter what...and the other is forced, whether to like it or not, to apologize and make up...even, even if in fact, the person who did not get angry was not even doing anything wrong...well, at least to him...when a person apologizes, its like saying that the angry person is right and correct. Who wants to differ an angry person?

Won't this promote an unhealthy way of thinking? The person actually doing wrong is being admitted to be doing right while the other would question himself and he wouldn't know whether he was actually right.... So, the fact is that, to gain the upper-hand in a dispute would be to gain support from other people, say things louder like you're right, get angry first and always make the other person look like a fool with nonsensical arguments that may seem to make some sense. Well, that's the way of life: The Survival of the Angriest...
