Make A Better Decision - 29th June

Recently, I've received an email on decision making and it defies most decision making techniques ever thought in my opinion. It made me think of decision making in the big picture and to the context of each of the cases, what is actually a right decision to make and what are bad decisions.

The story goes:-

A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other disused. Only one child played on the disused track, the rest on the operational track. The train came, and you were just beside the track interchange. It was not possible to stop the train but You could make the train change its course to the disused track and saved most of the kids. However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make................
Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. To save most of the children at the expense of only one child was a rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally.

But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how far-sighted and knowledgeable the minority are. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him. To make the proper decision is not try to change the course of the train, because the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens.
If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe.

If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids. While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one.

Durian and Hometown - 28th June

I've been away from the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur for about 2 days plus, since Friday afternoon until today's evening. I went back to Jerantut, my father's hometown or 'kampung'. My relative, which we call her 'Ah Peng' that is my cousin sister came back from New Zealand with her family to Malaysia. They migrated there for quite a number of years alreaday. Officialy, it's 17 years since her son is already 17th, whose name is Justin Chong. On Saturday night, we had a buffet dinner of fried noodles, fried and roasted chicken wings, curry chicken, 'Hakka' dish of pork and fungus cooked in soy sauce, cakes, and also lychee with jelly as dessert. It was absolutely filling, but the only thing was that the fried noodles was too wet and the fried chicken wings were bland and soft due to the amount of time left in the open.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, we had a 'king of fruits' feast, the durian! It maybe offensive to some westerners but in this country, 99% of Malaysians love the fruit due to its savory taste, and maybe bitter or sweet. In fact, the 'smellier' it is for non-Aseans, the better tasting it is for us. Well, things that other countries maybe treated like delicacies by the lcoals may not be appealing to people from other countries. Anyway, here's how the whole thing looked like:-

This is only a small fraction compared to its original amount.
The best thing is:- Its all free! Courtesy of an about to be relative, Ah Meng.

One of my cousins opening a durian.
Note: He's one my older cousins and due to olden days family complicated factors, I'm even close to his age!

After opened, this is how it looks like. This particular durian is not among the best in the heap.

RIP Micheal Jackson - 26th June

Well, it will be a sad day for the world as on the 25th of June shall be marked as the day 'The Prince" died. This prince has amazed countless number of people and endless number of fans. But due to various people trying to spoil his name and thus his name is not good in some households. But for me, he's one of my early childhood people which I really liked listening to. Imagine, I'm only 7 but I already know who he is. At that era of the 80's, who does not know what moon-walking is? Although, I do agree, he shouldn't have done so much plastic surgery although he denies it. There are also rumors that he's dabbled in the black arts of black magic but what I can say is that, these are definitely rumors spread by people jealous of his popularity and fame. So far, from what I know, modern artistes, would never reach such international and worldwide acclamation as he has. Rappers or Freestylers for example do not cover most of the people on this planet, not everyone likes this genre especially me.

His antiques although may be sometimes sound a bit crazy, but it did make him an icon and even kids know his trademark and at my era, anyone who knows how to dance or sing like him instantly gets applause and cheers from anyone watching. I wonder if kids in this age know actually who he is? Any person on this planet aged 10 and above would definitely know him.

I think probably with all the names now you can guess who he is: The King of Pop, Micheal Jackson. The World will remember the King and his songs shall become a legendary classic just like Elvis Presley's as Beethoven's music to modern times. His songs shall be remembered, moves duplicated and dance routines be the trendsetter in this modern age.

Traffic Jams - 25th June

I know that many people don't like traffic jams, as they cause legs and feet to hurt, tensions to rise and also pressure to increase due to heat and the feeling of stuck somewhere with no where to go and can't do nothing about it. But, hey, another point of view is that: traffic jams are in fact a unity of the mind! The thing which causes traffic jams is when a lot of people decide to go to a destination using the same route at the same time. So, this is in fact the unity of thinking power and the like-minded thought. If, we could harness this surge of thoughts, wonder what mysteries of the world can we unravel? Imagine if these thoughts are the computing power, I'm sure all complicated theories and calculations can be solved easily.

Anyways, for the past 3 days, I was having an Introduction to ANSYS course, which is why there was no blog update. Overall, the course was fine, its only that it did not explain clearly what should be and why should anything be done in the course material. It was free anyways, so, I don't really mind. Looks like I'll have to explore the software myself.

Father's Day - 21st June

Today is Father's Day and like every other year, we don't celebrate it much. There wasn't even any activities planned for today. The father's day go-out dinner was yesterday, it was a small occasion only, among ourselves. Like every other year, we had western food of chicken chop at SS3. However, we did make a card and inside, I've written on "The Meaning of Happy Father's Day" with all the usual greetings. Well, I would spend my dad to a scrumptious buffet lunch or dinner but my Dad always likes to keep it small, so we never did that. I was thinking maybe next year, I'll spend him to a better Father's Day.

A Real Town - 19th June

Recently I've got an email about a little town in Germany and the name is...well, let's just say I won't want to live there and be called I wouldn't like to hear. Just read this newspaper article and it's really about a town in German!

See Map below:- Can you see where it is?
Just look for the red "Upper Austria Obersterreich", it's directly below.

Wingz, maybe you can do a funny joke about this?

Best Ad 2009 - 18th June

This Thai ad by Pantene sure is kinda tear-jerking. Among all ads I've seen in my life, this is among the more meaningful and it can match those by Petronas. It's about a deaf-girl wanting to play violin (which is almost impossible, but Beethoven was deaf, so anything's possible) and she's always being told that she can't be playing violin and is wasting her time and useless. Eventually she stood up and conquered the odds.

Spot An Email Scam Tutorial - 16th June

Seeing the fact that there are so many scam emails sent to me lately and probably to other members of the netizens too, I'm here showing some of the methods of spotting scam and which are dead giveaways, what to look for and probably ways you can respond to these emails so that you will receive one less scam email. So, let's get on with it!

---->[ Introduction to scam emails ]<----
Scam emails are emails that you receive from a relatively unknown person, usually the author's place of origin is foreign and involves in you winning a large sum of money, lottery or an expensive prize and would involve transferring the alleged item to you. The transfer of alleged item usually involve in your parting of a certain amount of money to so-called 'clear' procedures. Other than that you have won a prize, there are also cases where people wants to transfer their lifetime savings to you for investment, but yet still require for you to part with a large amount of money for 'processing'.

---->[ Dead Giveaways of the Scam ]<----
These are things that instantly show that scheme is a scam:-

1> Author claims to be from an organization but uses public free email.

This is one most easiest to spot tips, the email author claims that he's from an organization (e.g. Chong Hing Bank) but uses a public free email (e.g hotmail) to correspond with you. Why doesn't he use the company's official email? The excuse: Doesn't have one? Out. For security reasons? out. To avoid anyone else knowing about this? Imagine this: How can the bank not know about a large sum of money in the bank who the client is deceased without any next-of-kin? Doesn't the bank have any other staff from the same department?

================================================

2> There's money involved for the 'processing'.

If there's so much money involved, why not the author pay for the 'processing' fee first and we'll deal about my part later? if you're getting millions, why don't you sponsor me some measly 'extra' cash and we both come to a win-win situation? Wouldn't that be faster? Furthermore, if you really can get that much money, might as well you choose your own relatives or close friends instead of a total stranger that might not even have heard of your so-called 'CEO' name?

================================================

3> He claims to be the CEO or high-ranking officer of the bank / company

If he's the CEO or high-ranking officer of the bank / company, why doesn't he keep it for himself? Because he's honest? Because he's kind hearted and not wanting any more money? The possibilities of this is almost nil. If he's so kind-hearted, he would donate the money to a charitable society and make a big fuss out of it for publicity and not to some unknown guy where the transaction is at all cost to remain private dealings. For all I know, nobody would be in their right state of mind reject 'extra' cash unless its a bribe, then rejection is a necessity.

================================================

4> The client involved with the money has just recently died

Do a record check on the 'client' and you will probably turn up with either same email scams on other sites. The so called "email from" person may exist but again, what's with the public free email if you're so sincere? And why does he have so much many right before something happens to him? People who realize that they're often prone to life-threatening situations will probably transfer the valuables to another trustworthy person prior to anything happening to him. And, in cases of generals, wouldn't that go to the headlines? How come I haven't heard of his name?

================================================

To avoid any further scam emails by the same author, you could probably remind the author that you're bringing this issue to the local law department and have them help you with this or you could make fun of him by playing along and giving him totally fake names and bank account numbers. You could also email him saying that his bank account has been hacked into, courtesy of the details he provided with the email. Lastly, if he wants to invest in your country using that money, you can direct him to the local charitable societies and have them deal personally.

Origin of Malaysians - 15th June

I found this article to be extremely interesting to read:-
Although, I'm not suggesting anything but merely just for information:-
(Word of caution though:- Its a long read)

(Quote)"

It's been interesting to read such free-flowing comments on the subject of the Origins of the Malays. While we are on the subject, how many of you have read the book entitled "Contesting Malayness - Malay Identity Across Boundaries" Edited by Timothy P. Barnard published by Singapore University Press?

Written by a Professor of National University of Singapore. It reflects the Anthropologists views that there is no such race as the "Malays" to begin with. If we follow the original migration of the Southern Chinese of 6,000yrs ago, they moved into Taiwan, (now the Alisan), then into the Phillipines (now the Aeta) and moved into Borneo (4,500yrs ago) (Dayak). They also split into Sulawesi and progressed into Jawa, and Sumatera. The final migration was to the Malayan Peninsular 3,000yrs ago. A sub-group from Borneo also moved to Champa in Vietnam at 4,500yrs ago.

Interestingly, the Champa deviant group moved back to present day Kelantan. There are also traces of the Dong Song and HoaBinh migration from Vietnam and Cambodia. To confuse the issue, there was also the Southern Thai migration, from what we know as Pattani today. (see also "Early Kingdoms of the Indonesian Archipelago and the Malay Peninsular")

Of course, we also have the Minangkabau's which come from the descendants of Alexander the Great and a West Indian Princess. (Sejarah Melayu page 1-3)

So the million Dollar Question... Is there really a race called the "Malays"? All anthropologists DO NOT SEEM TO THINK SO. (strangely, this includes all Malay Malaysian Anthropologists who are of the same opinion.)

Neither do the "Malays" who live on the West Coast of Johor. They'd rather be called Javanese. What about the west coast Kedah inhabitants who prefer to be known as "Achenese"? or the Ibans who simply want to be known as IBANS. Try calling a Kelabit a "Malay" and see what response you get... you’ll be so glad that their Head-Hunting days are over.

In an article in the Star, dated: Dec 3rd 2006

available for on-line viewing at:
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2006/12/3/focus/16212814&sec=focus

An excerp is reproduced here below:

"The Malays – taken as an aggregation of people of different ethnic backgrounds but who speak the same language or family of languages and share common cultural and traditional ties – are essentially a new race, compared to the Chinese, Indians and the Arabs with their long histories of quests and conquests.

The Malay nation, therefore, covers people of various ethnic stock, including Javanese, Bugis, Bawean, Achehnese, Thai, Orang Asli, the indigenous people of Sabah and Sarawak and descendants of Indian Muslims who had married local women.

Beneath these variations, however, there is a common steely core that is bent on changing the Malay persona from its perceived lethargic character to one that is brave, bold and ready to take on the world. "

The definition of “Malay” is therefore simply a collection of people's who speak a similar type language. With what is meant by a similar type language does not mean that the words are similar. (A native Kelantanese native speaker has no clue whatsoever what his Iban native brother is talking about; if both speak their own dialect) Linguists however, call this the "Lego-Type" language, where words are added on to the root word to make meaning and give tenses and such. Somehow, the Indonesians disagree with this "Malay" classification and insist instead on being called "Indonesians" even though the majority of "Malays" have their roots in parts of Indonesia. They refuse to be called "Malay"…. Anyhow you may define it.

The writer failed to identify (probably didn't know), that the "Malay" definition also includes, the Champa, Dong Song, HoabinHian, The Taiwanese Alisan and the Philippino Aetas. He also did not identify that the "Orang Asli" are (for lack of a better term) ex-Africans. If you try to call any one of our East Malaysian brothers an "Orang Asli", they WILL BEAT YOU UP! I had to repeat this because almost all West Malaysians make the same mistake when we cross the South China Sea. Worse, somehow, they feel even more insulted when you call them “Malay”. Somehow, “kurang ajar” is uttered below their breath as if “Malay” was a really bad word for them. I’m still trying to figure this one out.

Watch “Malays in Africa”; a Museum Negara produced DVD. Also, the “Champa Malays” by the same.

With this classification, they MUST also include the Phillipinos, the Papua New Guineans, the Australian Aboroginies, as well as the Polynesian Aboroginies. These are of the Australo Melanesians who migrated out of Africa 60,000yrs ago.

Getting interesting? Read on...

"Malay" should also include the Taiwanese singer "Ah Mei" who is Alisan as her tribe are the anscestors of the "Malays". And finally, you will need to define the Southern Chinese (Southern Province) as Malay also, since they are from the same stock 6,000yrs ago.

Try calling the Bugis a "Malay". Interestingly, the Bugis, who predominantly live on Sulawesi are not even Indonesians. Neither do they fall into the same group as the migrating Southern Chinese of 6,000yrs ago nor the Australo Melanesian group from Africa.

Ready for this?

The Bugis are the cross-breed between the Mongolian Chinese and the marauding Arab Pirates. (FYI, a runaway Ming Dynasty official whom Cheng Ho was sent to hunt down) Interestingly, the Bugis, (just like their Arabic ancestors) were career Pirates in the Johor-Riau Island areas. Now the nephew of Daeng Kemboja was appointed as the First Sultan of Selangor. That makes the entire Selangor Sultanate part Arab, part Chinese! Try talking to the Bugis Museum curator near Kukup in Johor. Kukup is located near the most south-western tip of Johor. (Due south of Pontian Kechil) He is more than willing to expound on the Bugis heritage. Buy him lunch and he can talk for days on end.

Let's not even get into the Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Kasturi, Hang Lekiu, and Hang Lekir, who shared the same family last name as the other super famous "Hang" family member... Hang Li Poh. And who was she? Legend tells us that she is the Princess of a Ming Dynasty Emperor who was sent to marry the Sultan of Malacca. Won't that make the entire Malacca Sultanate downline "Baba" ? Since the older son of the collapsed Malaccan Sultanate got killed in Johor, (the current Sultanate is the downline of the then, Bendahara) the only other son became the Sultan of Perak. Do we see any Chinese-ness in Raja Azlan? Is he the descendant of Hang Li Poh? But wait a minute....

That's what legend says. Let's look at the proof. The solid evidence. There is a well next to the Zheng He Temple in Malacca which is supposed to be the well built by the Sultan of Malacca for Hang Li Poh. According to legend, anyone who drinks of it shall re-visit Malacca before they die. Hmmm smells like a romantic fairy tale already. But let's look at who Hang Li Poh actually is. Which Ming Emperor was she a daughter to? So I got into researching the entire list of Ming Emperors. Guess what? Not a single Ming Emperor's last name begins with Hang. In fact, all their last names begin with Tzu (pronounced Choo). So who is Hang Li Poh? An Extra Concubine? A Spare Handmaiden? Who knows? But one thing for certain, is that she was no daughter of any of the Ming Emperors. Gone is the romantic notion of the Sultan of Malacca marrying an exotic Chinese Princess. Sorry guys, the Sultan married an unidentified Chinese commoner.

Next question. If the Baba’s are part Malay, why have they been marginalized by NOT BEING BUMIPUTERA? Which part of “Malay” are they not? Whatever the answer, why then are the Portugese of Malacca BUMIPUTERA? Did they not come 100yrs AFTER the arrival of the first Baba’s? Parameswara founded Malacca in 1411. The Portugese came in 1511, and the Dutch in the 1600’s. Strangely, the Baba’s were in fact once classified a Bumiputera, but some Prime Minister decreed that they were to be strangely “declassified” in the 1960’s. WHY? How can a "native son of the soil" degenerate into an "un-son"? The new classification is "pendatang" meaning a migrant to describe the Baba's and Nyonyas. Wait a minute, isn't EVERYONE on the Peninsular a migrant to begin with? How can the government discriminate? Does the Malaysian Government have amnesia?

The Sultan of Kelantan had similar roots to the Pattani Kingdom making him of Thai origin. And what is this "coffee table book" by the Sultan of Perlis claiming to be the direct descendant of the prophet Muhammed? Somehow we see Prof Khoo Khay Khim’s signature name on the book. I’ll pay good money to own a copy of it myself. Anyone has a spare?

In persuing this thread, and having looked at the history of Prophet Muhammed (BTW, real name Ahmad) we couldn't figure out which descendant line The Sultan of Perlis was. Perhaps it was by the name Syed, which transcended. Then we tried to locate which downline did the Sultan descend from of the 13 Official Wives of Prophet Muhammad named in the Holy Koran? Or was the Sultan of Perlis a descendant from the other 23 non-wives? Of the 13 Official Wives were (at least known) 3 Israeli women. Then you should come to this instant revelation, isn't Prophet Muhammad an Israeli himself? Yes, the answer is clear. All descendants of Moses are Israeli. In fact, the Holy Koran teaches that Moses was the First Muslim. Thus confirming all the descendants of Moses to be Israeli, including Jesus and Prophet Muhammad. It is also found in Sura 2:58&59 which specifically mentions that the Torah/ Talmud (Jewish) and the Kitab (Bible) are Holy Words of Allah. But since this is not a Religious or a Theological discussion, let's move on to a more anthropological approach.

So, how many of you have met with the Orang Asli’s (Malaysian Natives)? The more northern you go, the more African they look. Why are they called Negrito’s? It is a Spanish word, from which directly transalates “mini Negros”. The more southern you go, the more “Indonesian” they look. And the ones who live at Cameron Highlands kinda look 50-50. You can see the Batek at Taman Negara, who really look like Eddie Murphy to a certain degree. Or the Negritos who live at the Thai border near Temenggor Lake (north Perak). The Mah Meri in Carrie Island look almost like the Jakuns in Endau Rompin. Half African, half Indonesian.

Stangely the natives in Borneo all look rather Chinese in terms of features and facial characteristics especially the Kelabits in Bario.

By definition, (this is super eye-opening) there was a Hindu-Malay Empire in Kedah. Yes, I said right… The Malays were Hindu (just like the gentle Balinese of today). It was known by it's old name, Langkasuka. Today known as Lembah Bujang. This Hindu-Malay Empire was 2,000yrs old. Pre-dating Borrobudor AND Angkor Watt. Who came about around 500-600yrs later. Lembah Bujang was THE mighty trading Empire, and its biggest influence was by the Indians who were here to help start it. By definition, this should make the Indians BUMIPUTERAS too since they were here 2,000yrs ago! Why are they marginalized?

The Malaysian Government now has a serious case of Alzheimer's. Why? Simply because, they would accord the next Indonesian who tomorrow swims accross the Straits of Malacca and bestow upon him with the apparently "prestigious title" of the Bumiputra status alongside others who imply have inhabited this land for hundreds of centuries. (prestigious, at least perceived by Malays) They also have a strange saying called "Ketuanan Melayu" which literally transalates into "The Lordship of Malays" The Malays still cannot identify till this day "who" or "what" the Malays have "Lordship" over. And they celebrate it galantly and triumphantly by waving the Keris (wavy knife which has Hindu origins in Borrobudor. Ganesan is seen brandishing the Keris in a bass-relief sculpture.) during public meetings over National TV much like a Pagan Wicca Ceremony on Steroids. Let's all wait for that official press release to see who the "Malays" have Lorship over, shall we?

Of the 3 books listed, "Contesting Malayness" (about S$32 for soft cover) is "banned” in Malaysia; you will need to "smuggle" it into Malaysia; for very obvious reasons.... :( or read it in Singapore if you don’t feel like breaking the law. Incidentally, the Professor (Author) was invited to speak on this very subject circa 2 yrs ago, in KL, invited by the MBRAS. You can imagine the "chaos" this seminar created...... :( Fortunately the FRU was not called in.

The other, "Kingdoms of the Indonesian Archipelago, and the Malay Peninsular" (about RM84) are openly sold at all leading bookshops; Kinokuniya, MPH, Borders, Popular, Times, etc. You should be able to find a fair bit of what I’ve been quoting in this book too, but mind you, it is extremely heavy reading material, and you will find yourself struggling through the initial 200+ pages. It is extremely technical in nature. Maybe that’s why it hasn’t been banned (yet)…coz our authorities couldn’t make head or tail of it? (FYI, if I wasn’t doing research for my film, I wouldn’t have read it in its entirety)

The "Sejarah Melayu" (about RM 50) however, is freely available at the University Malaya bookshop. I have both the English and Royal Malay version published by MBRAS. Alternatively, you could try reading the Jawi (Arabic Script) version if you are truly a sucker for unimaginable pain...... (may feel like circumcision)

There are actually many sources for these Origins of Malays findings. Any older Philippino Museum Journal also carries these migration stories. This migration is also on display at the Philippines National Museum in Luzon. However, they end with the Aeta, and only briefly mention that the migration continued to Indonesia and Malaysia, but fully acknowledge that all Philippinos came from Taiwan. And before Taiwan, China. There is another book (part of a series) called the "Archipelago Series" endorsed by Tun Mahatir and Marina Mohammad, which states the very same thing right at the introduction on page one. “… that the Malays migrated out of Southern China some 6,000yrs ago…”. I believe it is called the “Pre-History of Malaysia” Hard Cover, about RM99 found in (mostly) MPH. They also carry “Pre-History of Indonesia” by the same authors for the same price.

It is most interesting to note that the Malaysian Museum officials gallantly invented brand new unheard-of terms such as "Proto-Malay" and "Deutero-Malay", to replace the accepted Scientific Term, Australo-Melanesians (African descent) and Austronesians (Chinese Descent, or Mongoloid to be precise) in keeping in line with creating this new “Malay” term.. They also created the new term called the Melayu-Polynesian. (Which Melayu exists in the Polynesian Islands?) Maybe they were just trying to be “Patriotic” and “Nationalistic”… who knows…? After all, we also invented the term, “Malaysian Time”. While the rest of the world calls it “Tardy” and “Late”. It’s quite an embarrassment actually…. Singaporeans crossing the border are asked to set their watches back by about a 100yrs, to adjust to “Malaysian Time”…

In a nutshell, the British Colonial Masters, who, for lack of a better description, needed a “blanket” category for ease of classification, used the term “Malay”.

The only other logical explanation, which I have heard, was that “Malaya” came as a derivative of “Himalaya”, where at Langkasuka, or Lembah Bujang today was where the Indians were describing the locals as “Malai” which means “Hill People” in Tamil. This made perfect sense as the focal point at that time was at Gunung Jerai, and the entire Peninsular had a “Mountain Range” “Banjaran Titiwangsa”, as we call it.

The Mandarin and Cantonese accurately maintain the accurate pronunciation of “Malai Ren” and “Malai Yun” respectively till this very day. Where “ren” and “yun” both mean “peoples”.

Interestingly, “Kadar” and “Kidara”, Hindi and Sanskrit words accurately describe “Kedah” of today. They both mean “fertile Land for Rice cultivation. Again, a name given by the Indians 2,000yrs ago during the “Golden Hindu Era” for a duration of 1,500yrs.

It was during this “Golden Hindu Era” that the new term which the Hindu Malay leaders also adopted the titles, “Sultan” and “Raja”. The Malay Royalty were Hindu at that time, as all of Southeast Asia was under strong Indian influence, including Borrobudor, and Angkor Watt. Bali today still practices devout Hindu Beliefs. The snake amulet worn by the Sultans of today, The Royal Dias, and even the “Pelamin” for weddings are tell-tale signs of these strong Indian influences. So, it was NOT Parameswara who was the first Sultan in Malaya. Sultanage existed approximately 1,500yrs in Kedah before he set foot on the Peninsular during the "Golden Hindu Era" of Malaysia. And they were all Hindu.

“PreHistory of Malaysia” also talks about the “Lost Kingdom” of the “Chi-Tu” where the local Malay Kingdom were Buddhists. The rest of the “Malays” were Animistic Pagans.

But you may say, "Sejarah Melayu" calls it "Melayu"? Yes, it does. Read it again; is it trying to describe the 200-odd population hamlet near Palembang by the name "Melayu"?(Google Earth will show this village).

By that same definition, then, the Achehnese should be considered a “race”. So should the Bugis and the Bataks, to be fair. Orang Acheh, Orang Bugis, Orang Laut, Orang Melayu now mean the same… descriptions of ethnic tribes, at best. So some apparently Patriotic peron decided to upgrade the Malays from Orang Melayu (Malay People) to Bangsa Melayu (Malay Race) Good job in helping perpetuate the confusion. And since the “Malays” of today are not all descendants of the “Melayu” kampung in Jambi (if I remember correctly), the term Melayu has been wrongly termed. From Day One. Maybe this is why the Johoreans still insist on calling themselves either Bugis, or Javanese til today (except when it comes to receiving Government Handouts). So do the Achehnese on the West coast of Kedah & Perlis and the Kelantanese insist that they came from Champa, Vietnam.

Morover, the fact that the first 3 pages of "Sejarah Melayu" claim that "Melayu" comes from Alexander the Great and the West Indian Princess doesn't help. More importantly, it was written in 1623. By then, the Indians had been calling the locals “Malai” for 1,500 yrs already. So the name stuck….

And with the Sejarah Melayu (The Malay Annals in page 1-3) naming the grandson of Iskandar Zulkarnain, and the West Indian Princess forming the Minangkabau. Whenever a Malay is asked about it, he usually says it is "Karut" (bullshit), but all Malayan based historians insist on using Sejarah Melayu as THE main reference book for which "Malay" history is based upon. The only other books are “Misa Melayu”, "Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa", "Hikayat Pasai", "Hikayat Raja-Raja Siak" and “Hikayat Hang Tuah” among others; which sometimes brings up long and “heated” discussions.

Interesting to note is one of the great "Malay" writers is called Munsyi Abdullah; who penned "Hikayat Abdullah" He was an Indian Muslim. Let's re-read that little bit. He was an Indian Muslim. How can an Indian change his race to be a Malay? He can change his shirt, his car, his religion and even his underwear, but how can anyone change his race? This must be The New Trick of the Century, which even David Copperfield will pay lots of money to watch (and perhaps learn).

"Mysterious Race Changing Trick"- created by The Malaysian Government.

Still, Malaysians are still only second to the Jews (who by the way, are the only other people in the world who are defined by a religion) So perhaps David Copperfield has yet to learn a few tricks on the mass deception skills of the Malaysian Government?

Malaysia Boleh...

I find this strange.

I also find, that it is strange that the "Chitti's" (Indian+Malay) of Malacca are categorized as Bumiputera, while their Baba brothers are not. Why? Both existed during the Parameswara days. Which part of the “Malay” side of the Baba’s is not good enough for Bumiputera classification? Re-instate them. They used to be Bumiputera pre 1960’s anyway.

Instead of "Malay", I believe that "Maphilindo" (circa 1963) would have been the closest in accurately trying to describe the Malays. However, going by that definition, it should most accurately be "MaphilindoThaiChinDiaVietWanGreekCamfrica". And it is because of this; even our University Malaya Anthropology professors cannot look at you in the eye and truthfully say that the word "Malay" technically and accurately defines a race.

This is most unfortunate.

So, in a nutshell, the “Malays” (anthropologists will disagree with this “race” definition) are TRULY ASIA !!! For once the Tourism Ministry got it right….

We should stop calling this country “Tanah Melayu” instead call it, “Tanah Truly Asia”

You must understand now, why I was "tickled pink" when I found out that the Visit Malaysia slogan for 2007 was "Truly Asia". They are so correct... (even though they missed out Greece, and Africa)

BTW, the name UMNO should be changed to UTANO the new official acronym for “United Truly Asia National Organization” . After all, they started out as a Bugis club in Johor anyway….

I told you all that I hate race classifications…. This is so depressing. Even more depressing is that the "malays" are not even a race; not since day one.

“Truly Asia Boleh

"(End Quote)

It provides a sort of informative idea on the origins of Malaysians regardless of race. One point I would like to add though: Why are the Malaysian 'Heads' labeling non-Malaysians as 'pendatang' (immigrants) when none of anyone living here are in fact actual residents? And, what's with the 'Ketuanan Melayu'? No one can claim they've arrived first.

Millionaire - 14th June

Again, just moments ago, I've received another email that contact me to transfer a large sum of money in to my bank account from someone deceased, due to tsunami. Apparently, Mr.Peter Lee will be giving me 30% of USD$ 25.5 million...Wahh that will make to RM26.7 million? That's a lot of money but that's laughable...hahaha

Looking back at the past few emails on scams, if they were all real, I could have opened my own personal banking company and have billions to even buy a nuclear submarine and I wouldn't have to work any longer. Looks like maybe somebody is reading my blog and is challenging to see whether do I have any greed in me? Tough Luck and try again next time. I've probably tuned out my money sense already and will not, I repeat: WILL NOT succumb to these scams. From emails, I've learned how to detect scams and probably I'll put up a tutorial in the next posting on: How to do detect email scams....

For all scammers out there: TRY AGAIN!!!

Latest Games - 14th June

ArmA 2 - June
Battlefield Heroes - June
Wolfenstein - June
Battlefield 1943: The Pacific - Summer 2010

Ads Testing - 12th June

Testing pictures from my site.

Reflection Part 2 - 12th June

Looking at my life now reminds me of two songs:-

=========================================================
"Starry Starry Night" by Don McLean

(Song)
Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and grey,
Look out on a summer's day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry, starry night.
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you.

Starry, starry night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,
Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the strangers that you've met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will...
(End Song)

=================== And =====================================

"Melodies of Life"
by Nobuo Uematsu, sung by: Emiko Shiratori.

(Song)
Alone for a while I've been searching through the dark
For traces of the love you left inside my lonely heart
To weave by picking up the pieces that remain
Melodies of life--love's lost refrain

Our paths they did cross, though I cannot say just why
We met, we laughed, we held on fast, and then we said goodbye
And who'll hear the echoes of stories never told?
Let them ring out loud till they unfold
In my dearest memories, I see you reaching out to me
Though you're gone, I still believe that you can call out my name

* A voice from the past, joining yours and mine
Adding up the layers of harmony
And so it goes, on and on
Melodies of life,
To the sky beyond the flying birds--forever and beyond

So far and away, see the bird as it flies by
Gliding through the shadows of the clouds up in the sky
I've laid my memories and dreams upon those wings
Leave them now and see what tomorrow brings

In your dearest memories, do you remember loving me?
Was it fate that brought us close and now leaves me behind?

* Repeat

If I should leave this lonely world behind
Your voice will still remember our melody
Now I know we'll carry on
Melodies of life
Come circle round and grow deep in our hearts
As long as we remember
(End Song)

===============================================================

Sigh...my life, wonder how much traces have I left on the paths of other people's journey I wonder. Did I leave an impression deep enough for people to remember or did I just brush by and stir up some dust. What will I be remembered for before I go into an eternal sleep I wonder? Will it be nice memories or bad memories I wonder?

Funny Blog - 11th June

Recently I just found a blog that's really funny.
It's full of funny jokes and pranks. Follow it here:-

ROJAK

A word of caution though, there's kinda a lot of foul language in the jokes. Mostly Hokkien colorful language. And mostly related to Malaysians way of life and conversation, so people from other countries might not get the jokes properly.

Mega Red Packet - 10th June

I came across this website:-

MegaRedpacket.com
(I'm not linking it as I don't believe them)

Anyways, another blog claims that they've made RM1 mil in 10 days selling just the 'junk' they promote. I was thinking to myself while looking at their sales pitch page: "A lot of this stuff, I can get for free elsewhere", why are they charging people for it? RM1 mil in 10 days? Are you really sure or its just a marketing ploy?

Sometimes I wonder, sales pitch pages these day all focus on selling e-books or cds that have to do with Google Adsense or 'Making money Online' or SEO or 'Techniques to Generate Traffic' or 'Buy Now and Get a thousand dollars in check' and the likes of it. Why doesn't anyone sell e-books on more useful stuff such as Dreamweaver Tutorials etc? In my opinion, that is something that more people would buy. Selling e-books of those kind is not to say it's a bad idea, but considering that the market is overflowing with them now makes it seem like a scam.

And most of them speak of: "We will help you!" Yeah right, like they will. Technical Assistance help through the phone is already hard enough, what will this people do? Come over to your house and show you step-by-step? That's not a problem if you live next door or in the city they are in but if both of you live in both ends of the world, I don;t think that's possible. How much can they say through the phone or through online? They don't know what you don't know and they don't know is your cursor is now on the 'Delete Account' button as they can't see what you're doing. Even the phone bills may turn out to be more expensive than the stuff they're selling, so, why should they?

So, tell me, what's the point? Are the netizens too shrouded in mists of fantasy and hope that they forgot the basic of reward is working towards it? What is too much about learning how to sell, how to setup websites and learning to market? What you learn is a lifetime. If they help you out by setting you a website, by running the thing for you. What do you get? Money and that's all there is. What if they suddenly decide to dump you and use the website for themselves? And then you're left in misery of your own doing by not learning the thing that makes it tick.

The point is: Somethings you can get for free. Search for it or its alternatives. The contents of these e-book do not vary very much among each other. If you need help, contact me and I'll teach you hoe to start your own business free-of-charge. If you don't acknowledge my help, I won't even care a least bit. After all, I am in the same boat as you are.

On9Ads.com - 10th June

Recently I've made much progress concerning the website development. Completed on the login, main, register, activation and send email page. I've tried the system with my own email and it does work. Looks like anyone having trouble setting it up with Dreamweaver can email me and let me know how I can help.

Get Rich Claim for Dummies - 9th June

Recently, I've been reading lots and lots of sales pitch pages and I was wondering why these people are letting go a golden opportunity to waste. First: they have their own website, their own domain (which some of them are really nice names) and they're using it for sales pitch pages? What and Why? They can use the domain name for so many other purpose to make money, such as an e-commerce store or a forum or even a blog but they're just selling just one product? What a waste...

Anyways, due to the sheer number of sales pitch sites, I've decided to say this: These are mostly scams! Yes, they do send you the e-book when you pay them but what I'm saying is that the contents are scams. No doubt that buying your first informative e-book is a nice thing to do to learn something, but the second and third will be a waste of your time as most of the contents and so called tips are in fact the same. Well, here's the summary of what I know so far:-

===========

1>
Claim ->
"You can earn thousands with only 2 hours a day in front of the computer without having any computer skills and anybody can do it!".

REBUTTAL ->
What? 2 hours a day? Anybody can do it without computer skills? Oh my, this is great! RELAX? NOT! Without computer skills, how would they understand what's happening on the screen? I can hear these people saying "Where's the 'Press Any' key on my keyboard? How would they check emails? Payments are done mostly online, how would they know if they have any money coming in if they don't even have an account? And 2 hours a day only? Won't everyone be rushing to do this instead of their boring 9-5 job since it promises to earn you so much?

===========

2>
Claim ->
"We have proof of the earnings! See chart below

REBUTTAL ->
I used to believe the charts too. They were in fact from 'Clickbank', an online place to sell internet stuff such as e-books, softwares / programs and services. Later, I found out that the charts were everywhere. Almost every sales pitch page I saw has one. How better to promote your product then using a earnings chart by Clickbank? SMART? NOT! Those charts have two possibilities:-
i> They're stock charts taken from other sites and claimed as theirs.
ii> The charts are real, but not the actual earnings from using the e-book tips but earnings from selling the e-book to other people who believed in them.

===========

3>
Claim -> Affiliate Marketing is the way to go! You do not need any of your own product to sell!

REBUTTAL ->
It sounds so simple, just promote other people's products and if you get sales, you get commissions and sometimes may reach up to 75% of the sale price. Imagine that, all you have to do is to attract people to your site, get them to buy what you're promoting, and there you go! SIMPLE? NOT! To get traffic, you have to do advertising. To do advertising, you need money. To get money, you have dig your own pocket or make sales. See the pattern? You will be stuck pretty fast and unless you're willing to shell out tonnes of cash, might as well you start your own business. Sometimes, for Affiliate Marketing, you're shelling out more money than those coming in which equals to loss. No own product to sell? Selling other people's stuff isn't that bad, but if the person you're representing sell stuff that are pretty useless and scamming, well, that may cost you your reputation and your future business prospects even if you make a new one.

===========

4>
Claim -> Imagine earning a million dollars! and here are the testimonial of people who have succeeded!

REBUTTAL ->
Imagine that! A million dollars! Wonder what I can do with a million dollars? Maybe a Lamborghini perhaps? Thats NICE? NOT! Again, the argument here is that why wouldn't anyone else follow suit and get a million dollars in no time? Wouldn't that be so easy and the government would be so happy to have less poverty to deal with. The sales pitch even has pictures and testimonials of people who have made it big with the program / e-book secrets. Do you realize that sometimes you might say: Hey, I've seen that guy before somewhere but wasn't his name John or Joe but how come his name now is Peter? The culprit here is stock photos. They just pluck it from anywhere and paste it into their site and hey presto! Another person! And the cars and house? I've found plenty, try Google. Sometimes, they take pictures of themselves next to luxury or sports cars and claim that's theirs...yeah buddy whatever...they're just taking pictures of cars parked somewhere, and they even have paid the owner some cash to let them take pictures.

===========

Well, I think I've written long enough. Hope anyone reading would not fall into scams. But anyways, although I do claim that mostly are scams, I do not deny that there are real opportunities out there that I may not have found out, but rare for sure. If any reader out there that comes across a sales pitch that do not use either of the claims above, let me know. For all I know: Nothing is free and there's no such thing as Easy Money or No Work gets you Money.

Heartburn? Acid reflux? - 8th June

Recently, last Friday actually I had a long duration of burning sensation in my stomach, it comes and go and the pain really makes me nauseous and sweaty. Went to check online and found that maybe I'm having an acid reflux or heartburn. It happens from the acid from the stomach flows into the esophagus, causing the acid to 'eat' away at the inner layer of the esophagus. Another possibility would be gastric...

Anyways, I took a medication called 'Zantac' which helps in reducing the acid produced in the stomach, thus, reducing the reflux or overflow. Had to stay away of chili and fried foods for a while.

Monetizing Your Blog With Ads - 8th June

Taken from:- http://onlinebusiness.about.com/od/monetization/a/monetize-blog.htm
by Lynn Truong

Once you have a site up that is regularly updated and gets a steady amount of traffic, you should start thinking about monetizing. The list below provides ways to monetize that won't take up a lot of your time, so you can focus on building your site with good content and growing your traffic. These are the most basic (and arguably the least profitable) methods, but they are effective interim monetizing strategies.

As with most strategies regarding money, diversification is key. Try a combination of these methods to maximize earning potential (without making your site too ad heavy). Play around with your layout, if it's flexible, to give different ads more or less exposure (don't let them overshadow your content). Test a variety of networks. Make sure you are being paid accurately and in a timely manner. Monitor your performance and if you are not happy with the service or results, try another company.

1. PPC Ads (Pay Per Click)

Google Adsense is the most popular and widely used option. They serve contextual ads (image or text) based on your content, and pay when someone clicks on the ad. How much you make on Adsense depends on several things. First, advertisers bid on keywords, so if you happen to write about a topic that has high paying keywords, then each click will be worth a lot more than another topic with low valued keywords (keywords that has really low bids). Also, people who came to your site from search engines are more likely to click on these ads than people who are repeat visitors. It makes sense then to spread out your Adsense ads to provide easy access for search visitors.

Other PPC options include Bidvertiser and AdToll.

2. CPM Ads (Cost Per Thousand)

Unlike CPC ads, CPM ads pay per impression. Viewers don't need to do anything for you to be paid. You just need to serve the ad to them. The downside is that you're paid almost nothing for each impression. Rates can go as low as $0.10 per thousand impressions. But it's still a good option to use in conjunction with CPC ads. CPM ads can be placed in less prominent spaces (below the fold) whereas CPC ads should have better position. Most ad networks that offer CPM ads have CPC ads thrown in as well. You can set your own prices and remove unappealing ads.

Networks that offer CPM/CPC ads include AdBrite and ValueClick Media.

3. CPA / Affiliate Ads (Cost Per Action)

CPA ads pay per action. Viewers don't just need to click on them, but they actually have to do something, either sign up/register or make a purchase. Not surprisingly, they are the highest paying ads. However, how likely your visitors will click on the ad and perform the desired action will depend very much on how relevant the ad is to your content. For example, a site about digital photography may do very well showing digital camera CPA ads. Some sites are much better suited for CPA ads. Consider whether any CPA ads would add value to your visitors.

Popular affiliates networks include Commission Junction, Adfish, and Amazon Associates.

4. Text Links

Text links work the same way as the above. You set aside a space on your page and text links will start showing up when they are purchased. You need to submit specific pages into the inventory, so enter your most popular pages (homepage, category pages, and very popular articles). Rates are based on your PR, which has to do with how many other sites link to your page. If you often get linked and mentioned, text links may be profitable for your site.

Some text link companies are Link Worth, TNX.net, and Text-Link-Ads.

5. In-text Advertising

In-text ads don't require any additional real estate, which is attractive to many site owners. Ads are attached to text in your content, showing up as underlined or double underlined words that are clickable. Some will pop up a little advertisement when the word is moused over. Many viewers, however, find these ads distracting.

Popular companies are Kontera and Vibrant Media.

6. RSS Feed Ads

Offering a feed of your content is essential. More and more readers are using feeds to catch up with their favorite sites, and not offering one will alienate a lot of readers who would be interested in your content. There is yet to be a lot of advertising options within feeds, but for now you can still monetize the traffic to your feed.

Dim Sum Breakfast - 7th June

Had dim sum breakfast straight for two days. For the uninitiated, dim sum is sort of a snack fare of steamed and/or fried delicacies eaten during anytime of the and usually taken with Chinese leaves tea or oolong tea. Well, my cousins came in these two days, both of them, one on Friday and the other yesterday. So, we ate breakfast with them on the next morning since they came from Jerantut, Pahang and are staying overnight.

Anyways, two days straight of Dim Sum had definitely made me gain weight. Looks like it will be a light lunch of porridge for me later. Dim Sum is actually quite fattening with all the oils, fried stuff and all the fatty meat they put into making the delicacies. But, hey they do taste great! And everything that tastes great has a price: cholesterol...

Ads in Blogs - 5th June

If you've realized, there are 3 ads on the sidebar which is not from Google Ads. They are in fact tests of blog ads and implementing them. I've implemented picture Ads and animated picture ads. I'm now left with quad ads in one slot and also flash file ads, but maybe not flash file ads as the ads do not require any special clicking game or that sort. So, ya probably only quad ads in one slot left.

For Blogspot only, (I haven't tried with Wordpress) it is through the Customize -> Layout -> Page Elements -> Add a gadget -> HTML/Javascript which then fill in the text area box with the image linking script. It's that simple.

Now, visitors can click those ads if they want and go to the appropriate site. In the demonstration's case, it links to On9Ads.

Update: Done a Quad Ads on Sidebar!

The Parting - 5th June

Partings are never usually a joyous moment, well at least not to me. Today, my niece and her friend which I've often chat with is leaving for UK for studies. It's been almost half a year already I guess of knowing her. And, I envy them...they get to go out and see the world, while I'm still stuck here in Malaysia. While they're at UK, they planned to go Paris and Italy which is the places I wanted to go too after watching the Da Vinci code. I want to go to the Louvre Museum and kneel at Mary Magdalene's tomb (fictionally there but the feeling's is comfortable), to see the great Arts by the Masters and see the cathedrals! But, I don't know when will that be.

Anyways, I want to wish them good luck, godspeed and all the rest of the good tidings for journeys on the road, air or in life as well. And, may all the Gods and whoever is up in Heaven protect them and guide them.

Although, I'm actually too lazy to point out the main historical points of the blog at the moment. But all I can see and remember is that this blog is mostly about my life and my website, with no preference towards any topic or 'niche' in particular.

But anyways, to you, I give you all my Thanks for supporting this blog and continue on supporting it, as there will definitely be more interesting talks soon! if you like the blog and/or find this blog helpful, recommend this to your friends! All in all:- THANK YOU! Without you people, this blog would have stopped a long time ago!

On9Ads.com - 2nd June

I finally got it figured out! Again, another issue came to my mind and I was stumped for 2 days before picking out answers from here and there and finally got the answers I wanted. I kept on looking and looking but the answers are always weird and too complicated to be implemented. Some have tonnes of codes that make me even more frustrated. Its about working with Maths using PHP and MYSQL.

Example:-
User key in two numbers and the system calculates the product (multiplication) of both numbers. All three numbers must be stored into the database for later retrieval. So, how to do with Dreamweaver?

Solution:-
Again, a little bit of programming is required and full understanding of what you're trying to do is required. So, after creating a dynamic form with ADDT which inputs in both values. Then you have to make a Custom Trigger where the code will be like:-
<<

function Trigger_Custom(&$tNG) {
$a = $tNG->getColumnValue('multiply_1');
$b = $tNG->getColumnValue('multiply_2');
$c = $tNG->getColumnValue('multiply_id');
$total = $a*$b;
$sql = "UPDATE multiply_test SET multi_result = '$total' WHERE multiply_id = '$c'";
$result = mysql_query($sql);
}

>>
Where
multiply_test = your table name
multi_result = column that you want to place the results
And there you have it your simple product calculator!

What does the sender think? That I'm low enough to not realize that I'm supposed to reply to a non-Yahoo email? I've won cash and Yahoo doesn't send me through their corporate email? That's the most basic thing and the sender doesn't even know how to pull this off. Today's news in "The Star" newspaper (country local) highlights that there are already RM20mil lost through scams like one of the emails above. Come to think of it, it's sad as the victims includes lawyers and professionals. Don't they learn science and how to analyze things critically and logically?
