Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Perks - 30th Sept

MODERN WARFARE 2 OUT NOW! HERE

Well, here's a new video for Call of Duty 6 which reveals the perks available. The video also shows some of the new functions compared to Modern Warfare (COD4) which I think would lead to a more varied gameplay. This I think would be the first game that I plan to buy original!

And for Cod:Modern Warfare 2 (COD6) fans out there, here are a couple of gameplay videos to whet your appetite before the arrival of the game! Enjoy and leave some comments! The videos in my opinion is really great, showing the actual gameplay and thank God I'm not being rick-rolled here!

FLAC vs Mp3 quality - 29th Sept

Recently, I've got audio files of the System of A Down: Mesmerize album in FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) format which suppposedly is of higher quality than the common Mp3 format. I've also got the same album in the Mp3 format. In which, I compare a couple of songs alternatively, meaning that, after listening to the mp3 version, I would then listen to the FLAC version to compare the quality of both versions. In terms of bitrate, the FLAC version has undoubtedly higher value, and the file size is approximately double of the mp3 version. After several listening sessions, my verdict:- I couldn't hear even slightest difference?

Conditions:-
Platform = Desktop Win XP, Winamp 5.50
Headphones = Philips (Don't remember the model)
Songs:- Questions, Lost in Hollywood,
Soldier Side (Intro), Radio / Video

And I thought, maybe there are a couple of factors leading to this:-
1> I don't have trained hearing or that my hearing isn't that sensitive.
2> The audio port isn't plugged in directly into the back of the computer but to the mini-compo which is connected to the desktop audio out.
3> Winamp is not a good player for audio playing?
4> The platform used is not suitable to test audio files.
5> The headphone isn't that high quality.

I wonder if any of these factors have caused me to have not detect much difference? With the smaller file size and if my ears cant detect the difference, I would say that I might as well use the mp3 format for the music. Furthermore, mp3 is more universally accepted while not all players / phones support the FLAC format. Perhaps someone else has other opinions on this on how to improve my music listening experience?

"jwgkwsq.vmx" virus wipe-out - 28th Sept

Recently I had to format my computer as it was infected by viruses so badly that even going online seems to be a problem. This virus ( jwgkwsq.vmx ) I would consider to be a dangerous threat as it is a trojan and liable to steal any of your personal information. The thing is that, during the first format, I did not bother anymore as it was a clean format which is total cleaning of the hard disk, but later, after sometime, the virus was spread again by my own pendrive! I did not even click or access it but the virus was run by the autorun.inf file in the pendrive which spawned the virus into my hard drive which caused me further agony of having to reformat again. I decided that I don't have to do this and therefore, I decided to search for the elusive solution to this virus.

As taken from Techie Bubble.Com

=======================================

The jwgkvsq.vmx is a worm-type virus, which spreads via USB/portable drives and through the network. It also makes autorun.inf file on your USB device as well as a hidden system folder called RECYCLER which contains the jwgkvsq.vmx file. I’m not sure if this is an old virus, but it seems it’s been spreading a lot lately. And most anti-virus doesn’t detect this, but for those who does, it can’t remove it.
It is also known as:
  • W32/Confi
  • W32/Conficker.worm!inf
  • Win32/Conficker.B – CA
It exploits Microsoft Windows vulnerability:
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-067 – Critical
Vulnerability in Server Service Could Allow Remote Code Execution (958644)
Published: October 23, 2008

Symptoms:
  • ‘Show hidden files and folders’ doesn’t work. You can check this by going to a folder, then click Tools, then Folder Options, then View tab. Select the ‘Show hidden files and folders’ then click Apply, then Ok. Open Folder Options again, if it reverted back to ‘Do not show hidden files and folders’ then you have this virus.
  • Evey time you plug in a USB device on your computer, it creates an autorun.inf file, and a RECYCLER folder with the jwgkvsq.vmx virus file.
  • You can’t access anti-virus websites an other popular websites like microsoft.com or yahoo.com
  • Windows won’t boot into Safe Mode. This happens on extreme cases. When you try to boot into Safe Mode, your computer restarts/shuts down
Side-effects
  • Since this is a worm, system slowdown may (or may not) happen.
  • Quickly spreads through networked computers and USB devices. Which includes flash drives, portable external hard drives, mobile phones, mp3 players, and anything that can be plugged into a USB port.
  • Won’t let you access some websites.
========================================

So, if you think you have the above symptoms, it is possible that you may have got this virus or maybe another virus and not this, but what's the harm in trying right? Anyways, to remove this virus, you would just need to download a little program from BitDefender and run it. The process is automatic but would just requitre some restarting of the computer at the end of the process.

The removal tool can be found HERE. Run it and Voila! all your problems solved!

Far Cry 2 - 27th Sept

I've just recently finished the game Far Cry 2. It took me about a couple of weeks to finish with on and off playing spread over the few weeks. Well. it is about a mercenary in Africa, doing missions for various parties to gain money, and to stop the character, "Jackal" from providing arsenals to the warlords fighting in the country of Africa.. The thing is about this game is that is what I thought the story is about. There was no clear indication of the story and up to now, there are a couple of questions unanswered such as:-

1> Why did the main character come to Africa in the first place?
2> How did the main character get to know about "Jackal"?
3> Who is the "Jackal" and why is he providing guns to the warlords?
4> What happens to the main character in the end?
5> What happened that lead to the war?

Maybe I didn't get all "Jackal"'s tapes which might provide some story that answers the questions but I'm not so sure about that. I've discovered some of the tapes but from what I can discern, it's all gibberish and nonsense which doesn't make much sense. This and several other factors lead me to give a low score for the story. In fact, if anyone tries to play it, try to grasp the story, it seems like it doesn't even exist. All you do is just kill and more killing without even understanding why.

In terms of game-play, there's nothing more than killing and more killing besides the occasional blowing up stuffs.  Although, the explosion effects look great and the fire propagation is somewhat quite interesting. The reputation aspect sounds quite interesting but somewhat, to me, it doesn't add any form of extras to the gameplay. The reputation description says that people would run in my presence, but in gameplay wise, all I know, they're still shooting at me as they would in the lowest reputation. The AI is rather erratic, sometimes really smart by flanking you in directions which you're not aware of and sometimes not even reacting to shots form far-distances. They don't use grenades which is a good thing. Although, I'm not sure why some of them survives a shot from a .50 caliber sniper rifle (which is used to be able to shoot through tanks). Oh, and I wonder why, they have so many vehicles around and all of them , even a lowly buggy has a GPS? They must be really rich to leave all these lying around. The check-points are one of the more annoying aspects of the game, I mean, after some distances, you'll have to stop, come down from your vehicle, start shooting the crap out of everyone in which after that you continue on either until you find another check-point or you reach your destination. Where's the fun in that you keep doing that for a single mission? Sounds like they're delaying you from finishing the game too fast.

Graphics wise, my computer isn't the best of the best so, putting all settings medium is  playable, with a minimum of 20+ FPS at certain points, including scenes with fire. In-game depiction of Africa looks somewhat like Africa. It awes you due to the sheer scale of it at first but playing the game for a couple of hours takes of that awe as most places look the same after a while. I really like the day / night cycle action and the occasional rain which is quite realistically done.

Overall, I would say that this is a playable game although not too much of my favorite choice as the missions are too much repetitive. They would be nice to also add some motorcycles in the game. And the particularly "suprising" part towards the end of the story sure makes a good twist, and it's really unexpected, so try the game to see for yourself. So, the scores for the game:-

Story:- 2/10 (Where's the story?)
Graphics:- 8/10 (Although I can't enjoy it to the full)
Gameplay:- 6/10 (Interesting, but gets old after a while with all the repeating)
Overall:- 7/10

Mom's Birthday - 25th Sept

Today is my Mom's Birthday!
Happy Birthday Mom and All The Best Wishes!

Well, we wanted to buy her a cake but she said it is too fattening with all the creams and sugars so we subsituted it with a virtual cake! Anyways, there wasn't any celebration, just a small dinner within the family as usual. We don't celebrate our birthdays much anyways. Thinking of her birthday reminds me that without her birthday, there will be no birthday for me nor my brother! So, a big THANK YOU to Mom for all you've done these years. We love you a lots!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Old Readers Digest (1969-8 and 1963-2) - 24th Sept

Recently, I went out to eat and passed by a shop selling books. I thought I might as well drop-in and see what do they have for sale since I don't really have much to do as it is a holiday. I was snooping around and suddenly my eye caught sight of the word "Reader's" on a shelf but strangely, it is not as colorful as it should have been. When I picked it up and scrutinized it, then I realized that it is an old / classic version of Readers Digest and it is only priced RM2.00, which lead me to buy it instantly. There was an August 1969 and February 1963 edition of both books, with extensive magazine spine damage. Well, although the damage is quite horrible, the articles inside did not lose its readability. After reading both issues for some time, I realise that the WTC towers were still under construction and the press still has a lot of questions on the space race. This sure is a piece of history here I have bought there I think. I'm sure someone would say: Another man's trash is another man's treasure. I wonder if the books I have is of any worth to anyone?

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri - 23rd Sept

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all Muslims around the world!
Maaf Zahir dan Batin!

The past threee days was a public holiday in the country, being 21st Sept as 1st Syawal or the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. For those who are not sure what Hari Raya is can refer the Wikipedia entry found HERE. It is during this time of the year that all tensions, quarrels, sins, misdoings, squaballings are forgiven with a sincere heart. And this is the celebration after one month of fasting and repentance. Well, I hope that I will be forgiven for any negative things in my blog that may have offended anybody and it is not on purpose.

Hari Raya reminds me of all the lemang (baked glutinuous rice in bamboo), rendang (malay style meat curry) and also the ketupat (compressed rice wrapped in bamboo leaves) besides the actual celebration after fasting for a whole month. These are among the delicacies to expect in a 'rumah terbuka' (open house) of a Muslim during this festival. And also, during this day, regardless of whether do they know you, the concept of the open house invites anyone to come to the house to join in together in the celebration. So, if you would like to know more on Hari Raya and its customs, the best way would be to visit a Muslim house on this very day, but of course, mind your manners!

In Malaysia, the racial diversity results in multiple public holidays for various races which is celebrated, regardless of religion or race. This sometimes has caused envy among foreigners seeing that they celebrate the holidays for the majority religion in the country, such as holidays for Christianity in the United States. While holidays for other religions are somewhat relative, depending on the individual. Well, that what makes Malaysia unique compared to other countries with racial diversities. In the country, a Muslim still can celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri by visiting his Muslim friends, a non Chinese learns to say Gong Xi Fa Cai by visiting his Chinese friends and also celebrate Deepavali by visiting Indian friends. Same goes with Hari Gawai and the same with other festivals or big day for the religion. Well, this is what we call a total respect for the racial diversity, for all of us are Malaysians!

Especially dedicated to: Na'am, Shikin Hambali, Syazwani Rahim, Nurfaizah,  Jamal, Lidiawati, Mohsen, Mahdi, Ahmad Abd. Rahman, Zhafran, Faiz, Nurul, Nurul Huda, Rosni, Siti, Noraini and many others which I did not mention your names here!

Century Egg - 17th Sept

I've actually longed to know how century egg is made and is it only until recently that I'm able to find this piece of information online. Old grandmother's stories is that century egg is made with mercury, which is the explanation for it's jelly like texture and it's dark black-brown color. It said that the duck egg is soaked in mercury for a few days which then the egg would absorb some of the mercury and thus preserving it. The thing is, mercury is poisonous, why would anyone eat poison directly? Well, I guess that's not true.

Century egg is produced in a couple of ways, either the modern or traditional way. In both ways, alkaline is introduced into the egg, by using natural ingredients such as wrapping clay around the egg traditionally or chemicals such as calcium hyroxide in teh modern form. Although this, I'm still not sure what causes for it to turn into the texture it is now. But well, at least I'm relieved that it is not made of mercury as previously assumed and there isn't much harm in consuming it. But, there's no point if it is consumed often as it would lose the appeal of it as a delicacy.

Fleet Foxes - 16th Sept

I'm now a fan of the indie band: Fleet Foxes. Their songs, although is totally different from the usual System of A Down that I often listen to, provides a calm but melodic songs. And they sure sound like they're from the 60's with the sounds of their guitar. I think it's best to leave it to you to decide whether is the songs nice. And here I've posted some of my favorite songs from the band.

Malaysian Citizen Rights In Police Arrests - 15th Sept

Recently a friend of mine placed a posting in his blog on police arrests and such cases where some police forces were exercising their power over common citizens where some cases were the citizen being wrongly arrested while some police accepted "coffee money". In terms of the "coffee money" acceptance, there was nothing that could be done besides to let the MACC to investigate on the claims but in terms of arrest, where sometimes, a police may stop you on the roadside, demanding that you follow him to the police station or he demands to see your identification card and such, there are a couple of rights granted to the common civilian in such cases. Below is the document that I found online at: http://www.elawyer.com.my/blog/wp-content/uploads/the-red-book.doc and below is the direct quotations from the document written by Derek Chong Ching Hsiang.

The Red Book - Police and Your Basic Rights

By Derek Chong Ching Hsiang

Introduction

Around April later year, the Bar Council has launched a book by the title “Police and Your Basic Rights” which was a noble action initiated by a group of lawyer known as TANGKAP (Tindakan Anti PenyalahGunaan Kuasa Polis).[1] The book is well known among the public as “The Red Book”. The main objective of this book is to educate the public generally about their rights when being confronted by police. This is because a mass majority of people do not know their basic rights and thus this leads too many problems.

The Red Book was officially launched on the 20th of April 2006 by Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Abdul Aziz, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Law also with the ex-President of the Bar Council, Mr. Yeo Yang Poh.[2]

Each and every individual have certain rights guaranteed under our very Federal Constitution.[3] The police have powers to stop, arrest and search an individual under the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC)[4] but these powers are limited.

In this topic, I will discuss on the few essential and fundamental information of the Red Book where I will share my view on it. I will also discuss the changes that will be done on the incoming of the 2nd edition suited to the amendment of the CPC with interviews done.

1. When Police Stop You

If we observe paragraph 1 of the Red Book[5], a person has a right to ask a police officer who is not in uniform. You can ask the officer for his/her authority card. Bear in mind there are 4 types of authority card based on colour i.e.

Blue – Has the rank of inspector and above

Yellow – Has the rank below of inspector

White – Police reserve

Red – Suspended police officer

One must take note that a red authority card police officer has no right to do anything and therefore you can walk away. If the officer is wearing uniform, do take down his/her name and ID number on their uniform and also number plate of the vehicle used.

“When stopped, you should provide your identification card, if requested by police. If they are asking for other document or show any other items, you may ask the officer the reason of doing so politely. If you are not under arrest, you may walk away or refuse to follow the officer back to the police station or anywhere.”[6]

2. Police Question You When Stopped

When you are being stopped by police, only give your ID card, name and your address. If there are further questions by the police, you may ask them whether you are under arrest.[7] This is important to seek clarification. You are under arrest if the officer say “YES” or do not want you to leave or want to take you to the police station. If they handcuff you, it is a clear thing that you are being arrested. But if you are not being arrested, you may walk away and refuse to follow the officer anywhere.[8]

3. Questioning by police without arrest

In this paragraph deals section 112 of CPC also known as witness statement. The 112 statement is normally recorded if the police think a person have certain information or knowledge of a certain case or offence.[9] Usually the police will make an informal request for a person 112 statement. If everything suits your time and place, you may choose to corporate but if not, do tell the police you will do at a time and place convenient for you (if you still choose to corporate with them).[10] Do seek a lawyer to accompany you in this situation.

If you decided not to corporate with the police, then they police can issue a formal order in writing signed by an investigating officer (Police Order) to seek for your assistant. You will not be arrested even you disobey the order. Bear in mind, it is an offence and the police may request a magistrate to issue a warrant against you to compel you to cooperate.[11] In general, if you are merely a potential witness and not a suspect, you may not be arrested for the purposes of taking a 112 statement.[12]

When giving a 112 statement, you can choose to answer any question asked by the police or remain silent if the answers you are giving are likely to expose you to a criminal offence.[13] Therefore it is vital that you pay attention to every question the police is asking and be alert at all times. Seek lawyers help and make sure they are present during that time. Do note that a 112 statement may be used in court.[14]

There are few things that you may want to look into as preparation which is considered vital. Firstly, do bring a notebook or paper with you (Personal Notes). Secondly, do write down every question asked on the note. Take your time and ponder carefully before writing your answer down and read your answers to the police officer questioning you. Do keep your notes for future reference and do not throw it away.[15]

Upon signing the 112 statement, do read as many times the questions and answers written by the officer carefully. Compare them with the ones in your note. Do take note that you can make any corrections to the statement before singing. If there is a lawyer with you, seek for his assistant.[16][17] If you are satisfied with your statement, sign below the last sentence of your statement, at every page.[18]

4. Police Arrest You

The first thing when a police is arresting you is to ask the reason of this arrest unless it is notified by you. If not, the arrest is considered unlawful. Never ever resist an arrest. The police have the right to use force against you and this will lead to unwanted situation.

Once arrested, you then can ask to which police station that you will be taken and the arresting officer must inform you and take you to the nearest station.[19] Seek details on the police station.[20] Bear in mind, you have a right to make a phone call. It is advised that you call your family, friend or a lawyer or the Legal Aid Centre. Do give important info to the person you are calling and do not waste time.[21]

You may be detained up to 24 hours. Note the sequence of events and names of officers you come in contact with during this period.[22]

5. Your Rights After Arrest And During Detention[23]

You have rights after being arrested and during detention. Firstly you have a right to contact and meet with a lawyer. This is the most fundamental thing that you must insist. You are allowed to have a set of clothing in lock up. The police must record and put all of your belongings in safe custody and it must be returned to you as it is upon your release. You are allowed to take bath twice a day and take note that if you are sick, you have a right to seek medical help. You must be given proper food and water during detention reasonably.

As said earlier you can only be detained up to 24 hours. It is a duty of the police to complete their investigation within 24 hours and to release you as soon as possible. If this cannot be done, the police must bring you before a magistrate for a remand order to extend your detention which is known as “remand order”.

6. Remand order by a magistrate

The power to issue a Remand Order by a magistrate is found in section 117 of the CPC.[24][25] The purpose for this remand order is to give ample time for the police to complete their investigation and to decide whether there is evidence to charge a person for an offence. As you have the right of silence, the police cannot ask for a remand order only for the purpose of taking a statement from you.[26]

The police must give reason to the Magistrate on why that person needs to be detained for more than 24 hours. The Magistrate then has a duty to consider the reasons given by the police carefully. A person can be detained for maximum of 14 days or less.[27]

“You have the right to request for legal representation at the hearing. Ask the magistrate for it. If the police have denied you this right or threatened or assaulted or treated you inhumanely in any way during detention, inform the magistrate. Alternatively, you may ask to be released or for a shorter remand order to be made. Give your reasons. e.g. “I will cooperate with the police in their investigations”, “I will be available”. The magistrate’s duty is to consider carefully the reasons given by the police and your reasons why you should be released or for a shorter remand order.”[28]

The Magistrate then have a discretion whether to grant a Remand Order or make a Remand Order for a shorter period that asked by the police. Bear in mind that the police can make more than one application for a Remand Order.[29]

7. Body Search without Arrest

Assuming you are a party somewhere during the weekend where all of a sudden a group of police are conducting a raid or looking or unlawful stuff like drugs, the police may search your body or bags without arresting you. This must be done in the presence of a police officer who is an Inspector or of a higher rank.[30] Do pay attention to what is happening during that time.

“Do not allow the police to put their hands into your pockets or bags. Volunteer to empty your pockets or bags in their presence so that you are able to see all your belongings. Take out your belongings one by one. Each time, say “purse”, “keys”, “ID card” etc. When your pockets or bags are empty, turn your pockets or bags inside out.”[31]

Bear in mind, a female can only be search by a female officer. All body search be it female or male must be done with decency for example cannot touch your private part or any other part which is deemed uncomfortable. There is no law requiring you to be stripped naked for a search without arrest.[32]

8. Body Search Upon Arrest[33]

The police have the power to search your body for any object relating to a suspected offence. The search must be done in a private confined place and it is deemed to be your right. Even when arrested, there is no law allowing the police to force you to be stripped naked. Protest and thereafter lodge a report should you be forced to strip.[34]

9. Questioning By Police After Arrest

Do identify the officer’s name and rank who is questioning you. Be polite when being question. You can choose to remain silent which is your right. Bear in mind you are obliged to give personal particular. During questioning, the police will ask you questions and will write down that answer that you have given them. If you still choose to remain silent you can answer “I will answer in court”.[35]

Usually the police will want to seek more information from you by threatening or forcing you into making a written statement. Do stay calm and remain silent at that moment. The police have no right to threaten, bear or force you. If this happens, do lodge a report as soon as possible. You will not be denied of this right.[36]

If you remain to give a 113 statement, follow the procedure as being discuss before on the procedure in giving 112 statement.[37] Bear in mind 113 statement can be used against you in Court that you have admitted or confessed to the offence charges against you OR that you have admitted or confessed certain facts that tend to show you are guilty of the said offence.[38][39]

Amendments To The Red Book, The Way Forward

Recent amendments to the law through the CPC (Amendment) Act 2006 and CPC (Amendment) (Amendment Act) 2007 have been amendment in hope that a better police force with better services and efficiency towards the public in ensuring safety to the community.

Interview with Mr. Edmund Bon was indeed a fruitful one where they are few things that need to consider and change to the current Red Book that will give great benefit to the public in ensuring their rights.

A. Remand periods and applications before the Magistrate[40]

For offences with imprisonment of 14 years or less, the detention shall not be more than four days on the first application and shall not be more than three days on the second application; or for offences with imprisonment of 14 years or more or punishable by death, it’s the detention shall not be more than seven days on the first application and shall not be more than seven days on the second application.[41]

Magistrate therefore must take into account period of prior detention and must allow representation by detainee himself or by counsel.[42]

B. Section 113 Caution Statement

In the new amendment, the caution statement has been abolished. No statement made to the police during investigation shall be used in evidence. This can be quote from the interview done with Edmund Bon where[43];

“The abolishment of section 113 caution statement is important because it reduces the power of the police to detain suspect for the purpose of taking statements from them. This move came in light of the numerous allegations that the police have been abusing and beating the suspects in order that they confess to their alleged crime. Upon confession, it will be reduced into the 113 caution statement in writing and then tendered in court. This therefore important to ensure suspects are not ill-treated and to ensure that the police do not just trying to get the caution statement only and then wrap up the case which was how it was done pre-amendment.”[44]

C. Rights of person on arrest[45]

“Police must inform of grounds of arrest. Police must before questioning informs the person that he may communicate with relative and lawyer and the police must allow to do so. If the person has requested for a lawyer, police must allow reasonable time for a lawyer to meet and consult with that person. Consultation must be done within sight of the police but not within hearing. Police must defer questioning till consultation done and provided facilities for free.”[46]

There are however exceptions to this where if the police reasonably believes that this will allow accomplice to avoid apprehension or result in concealment, fabrication, destruction of evidence or intimidation of witness or having regards to the safety of others that the questioning is so urgent it cannot be delayed. For this to apply there must be an authorisation of this by an officer not below the rank of Deputy Supt of Police who must record grounds of belief that the conditions of the exceptions apply.[47]

Investigating Officer must comply with consultation etc (as above) as soon as possible after the conditions for exceptions have ceased to apply and detainee still in remand.

Conclusion

The Red Book was created to ensure and to educate the layman on the basic fundamental rights. The book is not meant to go against the police force as said by Bar Representative Roger Tan Kor Mee said it would be convenient for the police if members of the public knew their rights.

“Our aim is not to work against the police but to educate the public so that they will be more conscious of their rights and co-operate with the police,”[48]

I am of the opinion that the Red Book will help to smooth the process of criminal procedure between the police and public and this could avoid misunderstanding between them. The issue of whether this book is against the police is irrelevant. This must be taken on board positively where the police force needs to strive to improve better. This is said by Datuk Nazri

“…..the citizens of this country will also help to move the process of reform along if they are aware of their rights. It is unfortunate that most people are completely ignorant of their rights. They do not have the slightest idea of what the police can or cannot do……..The greatest defence of civil liberties is a citizenry that is conscious of its rights….. while institutional change is extremely important it is also important that we empower our citizens to stand up for their rights. An individual who is aware of his rights and is prepared to exert them will in all likelihood receive better treatment by a detaining authority than an individual who is ignorant and prepared to accept any form of treatment meted out.”[49]

With the birth of this Red Book, we hope that many will be able to understand their right better to strive into a better nation in respecting human rights.

Keyboard Banging - 14th Sept

I'm kind of frustrated by the sounds of furious clacking of keyboards right beside my ears at the moment. It not only frustrates me but also irritates me. The guy next to me in UM, I'm not sure whether he's rushing to complete his assignments but pressing even the spacebar makes the whole table shake (in which I'm unfortunately sharing with him). I wonder if he has any sense of consideration for the next to him or is it my own fault for being too sensitive to this? I can't even concentrate on doing my own reading. Even now, as I type this, he is stil furiously tapping on his keyboard like playing a game but I won't inform him of my irritation as it is like what they usually say: Mind Your own Business...

Blog Journey - 10th Sept

I was searching online for the term: Malaysia's top blogs and Kenny Sia's blog HERE came out No.2, The first spot goes to a site which teaches people on tech tips and such (which I wasn't too interested in looking at...it just looks cluttered up to me). Anyways, went to the blog and realzied it started all the way back in 2005 which is about 4 years now. Quite a number of people are reading his postings and many have just started but consider it to be good to start from first posting. His blog is  more of a lifestyle and personal stories and anything on his thoughts. Guess, I share the genre as his blog.

But well, I wouldn't take his blog as a example or sample as I would rather have my own niche and do things my own way but the one thing that inspired to go on would be the amount of response he gets on each of his post, I guess a lot of Malaysian bloggers has a great impression over his blog and I hope too that one day that it will too make some waves in the Interenet world. Well, for anyone reading this whether in the near future or anytime in the far far future ahead, you now know that it is not as easy as anyone would have thought to make your presence felt in the Internet world, and if anyones tells you that it is easy to make money online, it is not. You need to have content then which you need publicity followed by members / followers which is in fact hard to get these days. I wonder how is it like in the future?

Taxis and Foreigners - 9th Sept

I was driving to UM today when I noticed a foreigner (not sure from which part of the world, but he sure looks either American or British) standing at the roadside, hailing a taxi at a traffic light intersection. The taxi driver just waved at him, indicating that he does not want to take him. Observing him through the back-view mirror, he was not feeling dejected, and the foreigner hailed another taxi among the cars in the traffic light queue and again the driver did not want to ferry him to his destination. Mind that both taxis are not ferrying anyone at all. This really did surprise me. If it was only a single car, it would matter less if the other taxi would be willing to take him, but the fact that both taxis is not willing to do so shows a particularly disturbing trend.

I believe it is either that the taxi drivers could not speak English in which would be lots of trouble in communication later or that they're cautious and aware of foreigners. Both reasons doesn't seem to be portraying a good image of the country if a lot of taxi drivers in the country behave the way like the ones I've seen. This shows either the country is still lacking of English speakers or foreigners is assumed to be something that we have to be overly cautious of. Some people may ask: Why didn't you ferry him? Well, it's not that I wouldn't, but I'm going to a specific destination while taxis function is to ferry people around and if say he wants to go to the KLIA airport, how am I reject him if he's already in my car? Wouldn't it be harsh to ask him to get out of my car after being as so kind to volunteer to ferry him?

Leaving comments on Blogspot - 8th Sept

After using Blogspot for a while, I found that the comments link for the posts are uninviting and it does not promote itself for readers to make comments. Therefore, I've revamped the comment link and hopefully this would attract more people to respond to the posts in the blog. And it is here also I would like to make a small tutorial on:-

The step-by-step guide on posting a comment in Blogspot.
(This would be based on my blog.)

1. Click on the comments link.
In my blog, it would look like the image below, but in some blogs, it is just a measly "0 Comments" wording which has the same color, font, size and etc. as the post author name. This is generally not noticeable and for novices, this is definitely not user-friendly. I've changed mine from "0 Comments" to the one below which is bigger and more noticeable by editing the HTML code of my layout.

2. Choose your identity.
After you've clicked the link [ Word: "Comment this post (0)" ], you will see a window pop-out like the one in the image below. Here, you can choose your identity from either (1) Google Account (2) Name / URL and (3) Anonymous. Just choose either one that you prefer. For the sake of simplicity, the security or "Captcha" code has been removed. If you choose (1) - you would have to login your Google Account while if you choose (2) - you would have to enter either your name or just URL Address which you would like to be linked to. Option (3) would identify you as an anonymous respondent.

3. Type comments and click Submit
After choosing your identity, you can then type in your comments and all is left now is to click sumbit to post the comments to the blog. This would enable me to either help you out anyway I can or I would respond to you.

Well, that is all! Hope you found this post useful.
Remember to donate by clicking any of the Google Ads on the sidebar or below the blog! I appreciate all forms of donations!

Malaysians and UK university - 8th Sept

This news has caused certain sense of discomfort in myself:- Malaysian is Top English student at London varsity. (The Star Newspaper Online) and can be followed here . Its not that I'm not proud of her achievement, but its just that it's particularly minor comparatively and it's not worth an article. I'm sure there are a lot of Malaysian students / ex-students who has achieved similar results in other foreign universities but their names are not mentioned anywhere in the news like the one in this article. This is to me a form of cheap publicity and in the end, the student did not even contribute anything of much value to the country and will be forgotten in the end. Sounds like she got the news due to her influential parents and her parents must have notified the local newspapers to have the story of their daughter's success using money.

And, being mentioned like this in a national newspaper goes to show that they're not particularly fond of local universities. I was wondering, what's wrong with being in a local university? Malaysians, mostly those in the upper-tiers of the society, is fond and reverend foreign universities commonly those in the UK. Why is this? The achievements of our local universities, even when they're worth mentioning, did not even get any form of news, even a single word. It can be assumed that the reporters of newspapers are having a bias here, assuming that the local universities are not up-to par with the foreign universities which is a shame and disgrace on the reporters side. Reading through the news, I wonder:- What good is it to have a bachelor in arts (english) in terms of the progress of the country? It's not like she can contribute by improving the standard of English on the whole? Heck, I wonder if she could get a lot of Malaysians to read her book that she plans to write considering that Malaysians generally do not have a often reading habit. So, my main point is that: What's with publishing a seemingly common news of a Malaysian student abroad with no particular useful information or contribution to the benefit of the society? Not only is it a waste effort, but also an atriocity!

I'm sure there are parties who say that I'm jealous of her success and such stories, well, say whatever you want, the truth remains that I'm proud of her achievement, but the sense of pride diminished when it was published in a newspaper. It was a minor story not worthy of a headline and it did not make any difference in our lives today.

ARGH! - 7th Sept

It was supposed to be a holiday today. But..I've only realize yesterday that it was only for Selangor and several other states which does not include Kuala Lumpur and therefore, here I am, back at work...Yesterday, I've even made up my mind and promised to meet one of friends who will be vacationing in KL today, but I can't due to this work that I've to attend. To her (You know who you are): I'm sorry, hope that you'll come to KL in the future and hopefully I won't have any pressing matters at that time and I can catch up with you. The belanja lunch thing I remember, not to worries...haha

Anyways, just finished the drama 'Lost' Season 1 recently. Yes, its absolutely quite late to actually start watching it but it is only now that I'm actually be able to get hold on the drama series after so long. Back in my Uni days, it was quite popular with the rest of the students but I was not interested as it was never complete and I dislike waiting it episode by episode which the intervals aren't constant and they download it as whenever they like, which pretty much disrupts the flow and feel of the drama on the whole.

Well, Season 1 was pretty much interesting, setting up the setting and mood for the rest of the story. Flight Oceanic 815 crashed on to an island out in nowhere and the passengers have to survive on the island. The thing is that most of them don't know each other, each other's past / history and their story. And so, it begins of their relationship and how they try to survive with various happenings and 'mysteries'. Reviews online show that most of the happenings are revealed at later seasons in which I try not to read as so not to spoil the story. But then again, I've heard that there're themes of time-traveling which ultimately intrigues me. And this is the only drama where I remember most of the character's name. Thus, I'll continue watching this drama until the final end to see what happens to all of them!

Characters:- (L-R)
[ Back row ]:- Locke, Hurley, Boone, Shannon, Sayid, Claire
[ Middle row ]:- Sawyer, Sun, Jin, Walt [Kid], Micheal
[ Front row ]:- Charlie, Jack, Kate
