Child Kidnap Call Scam - 19th August

Recently, Wingz in his blog, posted a scam in Malaysia that involves children whereby the caller would call the target randomly and after the target has picked up the phone, the caller would start to call out: Papa! a couple of times (assumed to be prerecorded).

This would of course generally cause parents to panic and call the caller back to inquire about their children whereabouts and what is the caller's demands for the safety of their children. While this is usually a scam, it is not safe to assume that it always is as there are also chances that it may be a real case of kidnapping. In the case that this is indeed a scam, you will commonly be paying the caller a large some of money to ensure that your child is 'released', which in the end, you would realize that it is a scam.

Wingz did post the telephone number that most of us should be aware of: 013-7288725.

No, this is not the actual picture. But it is real in China.

===================
In case this may happen to you, a couple of things that you should do:-

1> Don't panic and first thing should be to assume that it is a prank call.

2> Determine if your child is near you. (at home etc.)

3> Determine if your child is able to speak first thing. (Children 1 years etc. can't speak yet)

4> Determine if your child is able to speak the language the caller played to you. (If you've never heard your child speaking a particular language before, it's probably a scam)

5> Call the person taking care of your child, making sure that your child is near him/her.
(Important to also call your child if possible.)

6> If your child is indeed missing, call the police saying the guy who called you is harassing you and is threatening your safety of your child.

7> Co-operate with the police to stage an act to capture the culprit.

=================

These culprits have nothing to do in their hands, and with current economic depression, no doubt wants to find a living by using your bank account.
